Bridal Portrait in the Rain

Creative Wedding Photography Behind the Scenes at Nuthurst Grange

You never know what kind of reaction you will get when you ask a bride and groom to go out in the dark when it is pouring rain. So I was very pleased when Helen & Simon agreed and put their trust in me. With a bit of luck and determination, I managed to create this wonderful atmospheric wedding photo.
Despite getting wet I remembered to grab a behind-the-scenes photo & thought I would share it with you.

How Can I Improve This Next Time
The only thing I wished I had done differently was to put another flash behind the bride & groom to light up the water droplets.
However, it was not to be as I was pushing my luck to get this far.

What Gear Did I Use
This was quite a technically challenging photo to capture and was glad I had the right equipment to use.
Taken handheld on my trusty Can R6 fitted with my Canon EF 35mm f/1.4L II USM lens.
I used a Godox AD200 off-camera flash-triggered remotely. To soften and focus the light was fitted with a Smallrig RA-D55 softbox and grid all mounted on a large light stand.

How Did I Capture It
I posed the bride and groom then asked the best man to step out of the photo with his umbrella.
Exposed for the ambient light and filled the subject with a little off-camera flash just to the left.

What Help Did I Have
Many thanks to my assistant Tristan for lugging the light stand around and the best man for his efforts in helping me capture this wonderful photo.
Well done to Hazel for being a good dog and moving away from Mum and Dad for this photo. “I Love Dogs”
Finally a big thank you to Helen & Simon for trusting me to take this cracking bridal portrait in the pouring rain at night.
